What must you always, always have in your bag (besides the obvious)?
Wallet, keys, cell phone, rubber bands, lip balm, water bottle, reusable shopping bags

What is the most random thing you carry in your bag?
A rain poncho

Do you prefer a small purse, or a large one?
I prefer medium to large – I tend to carry around a lot of stuff, being a bicycle commuter. You never know what you might need!

Do you change your purse with your outfit, or carry one for the season?
I never change my purse with my outfit – too much trouble! And I’m not that fashionable. I love a pretty purse and I generally change mine twice a year – one for summer, one for winter. But mostly, I use my bicycle basket as a purse! Not as pretty, but it’s functional and easy for me.

Does your wallet have to match the bag?
NO! My wallet is totally ugly, but so functional, I don’t care!

Thank you so much for sharing with us, Yancy! We enjoyed taking a looking inside your unique purse :)  Take a peek at more of her creations in her etsy shop and read more about her on her blog or her Facebook page.

gardening on my mind

check out my gardening pins!

WELCOME SPRING! I always get the itch to start gardening in March. Winter seems to go on forever here in Central New York. I started my pepper & tomato seedlings last weekend. I’ve been pinning gardening ideas all winter long. There are so many smart ideas out there.

I’d really like to take some of my front lawn and turn it into a vegetable garden. We have a 6′ x 18′ one in the backyard, but it’s not big enough and we can’t make it any larger due to our septic leach field. Our front yard is very large and gets full sun. My hubby who is a bit of a nut about our lawn says no, but in my opinion lawn serves no purpose and is a waste of natural resources and time.

I do have approximately 1000 sq. ft. of flower beds surrounding my house. My ideas is to sneak some veggies into those beds and see how they do.

Do you have any gardening tips? What do you like to grow? I’d love to hear from you!

Today we are sneaking a peek inside Joseés purse. She is a fellow etsy seller who also upcycles materials into fun and beautiful accessories.

What are some items you typically carry in your purse?

Wallet, lip balm, ibuprofen, sun clip for my glasses, a pen, gum, keys, kleenex holder with kleenex, a water bottle, a couple of snacks (arabar, nuts and dried fruits, apple…) way too much bills, lotion bar, sanitary pads, measuring tape, during summer a small sun lotion bottle

What must you always, always have in your bag (besides the obvious)?

A metal reusable water bottle and since I’m hypoglycemic I really need to have snacks all the time in my purse.

What is the most random thing you carry in your bag?

I used to have a couple of figurines to keep my youngest entertained and I do have a not functional key for the same purpose :) and I used to take wipes from a particular restaurant to have them handy lol! I don’t know if random old bills and grocery lists fit in this category?

Do you prefer a small purse, or a large one?

I like medium size ones ;) I don’t want to carry too much but with 3 kids I end up having more stuff to tote around…

Do you change your purse with your outfit, or carry one for the season?

I’m not the kind of girl that will buy stuff for the sake that is pretty… it needs to be useful as well, so, hum, I use my purse for a solid year before making another one. So, i think we can say that is not matching my outfit all the time lol! Besides, I’m way too lazy to take time to change my stuff around to another purse.Does your wallet have to match the bag?

Hum, no. but since I love red and grey, it’s kind of matching. I might say I’m very eclectic ;)

I must admit that I am curious what women carry in their purses. Food, makeup, electronic gadgets, paper & a pen? So I will start by sharing what I tote around with me every day.

it holds a lot!

purse contents

my essentials: iPhone, pill organizer, coupon organizer, tissues, wallet, lip balms (also not shown: reusable shopping bag, hand lotion & a bluetooth headset)

A little Q & A:
1. What must I always have?
Lip balm. I hate me some dry lips. I think I might be addicted. I even push lip balm on my family, so you’d better watch out. Ha!

2. What is the most random thing in my bag?
I guess it would be a tape measure. It comes in really handy when you are shopping at estate sales, thrift stores & antique festivals and come across a cool piece of furniture. Then you can call your hubby at home and say would XYZ be too big for our living room, etc.?

3. Small purse or a large one?
I prefer a medium one. If it’s too large I feel like I’m searching in a black hole. Small never works for me because my wallet is too bulky. Besides, I’m a mom, so I always need room for snacks & toys.

4. Do I change my purse with my outfit?
I used to have multiple purses & was always switching them to coordinate with my outfits, but I got over the matchy matchy thing a few years ago when I started sewing my own bags. I usually carry one of the sweater purses that I created in the winter & a denim tote in the warmer months.

5. Does my wallet have to match the bag?
Nah, that is silly! Do people really do that? I usually like a bright-colored wallet because I can see it inside my purse much easier than a black one (enter the black hole theory again).

I’d love to hear if you carry anything interesting, funny or weird in your purse!

debt busting interview with five seed

I admit I was afraid to get this personal, but after thinking about it I knew it was worth it if I could help one person. So, here’s a chance to get to know more about me & I’m not talking my fun side. This is the real me… what goes on past the computer screen & sewing machine. Take a trip over to Five Seed & see what tough questions I answered for Yancy.

Nothing makes me happier as a maker than when I hear from a happy customer. I bend over backwards to make sure my customers are happy… I lovingly craft my items from start to finish… from finding materials, great communication, to recycle to packaging up every order with a handwritten note. I hope that people can feel the love & time I put into each item that leaves my hands.

“I am sooooo happy with my kindle case! Lynn worked with me to create just what I wanted!”
-Rebecca

“I love this case! It is adorable! I love the fabric and the design. It’s also very well made and my Mac fit it perfectly. I also love that Lynn uses is so eco-friendly: she uses recycled fabrics and sent the case in an envelope that is compostable! She responds immediately to all communications and sent the case immediately! I will definitely order from Lynn again.”
-Kristen

“I LOVE this bag! I’m a sewing fanatic, but sometimes I just get tired of making all of my own stuff. This bag is beautifully constructed, with pockets, a magnetic closure, stabilizer (to keep the shape), and is a great size for my stuff and a book or ipad.”

keys to my heart

What comes to mind when you think of Valentine’s Day… roses, a box of chocolates, expensive jewelry? Not me. It’s no surprise that I love handmade gifts. I appreciate things that people took time out of their busy lives to make. I enjoy cutout paper hearts and drawings every year. Those are the things  that I cherish.

My grandma and mom used to make my sister & I little heart pillows or ornaments with ruffles and lace. This is where I get my inspiration for my Valentine creations.
